Lung carcinoma

Most cases of lung cancer, "cancer" that tumors are caused by uncontrolled proliferation of epithelial cells are the cells that hide the shape and surfaces of most organs and bodies of internal structures. There are two types of cancers that are classified according to size and presentation of cancer cells.

After a biopsy was taken (the portion of the tissue suspected of being cancer), a laboratory specialist, as a histopathologist is known biopsy samples to determine locations of the microscope and in a position to determine whether cancer is present and if the removed non-small cell and small cell lung cancer. The former accounts for the majority of all lung cancer cases (80%), but granted regardless of classification, it is important because different treatments are more effective in the treatment of various types (note that there are other divisions, but the two largest).

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is further divided into three different treatments if the treatment is very similar for all of them:

Squamous cell lung cancer;

Adenocarcinoma and

Large cell lung cancer.

Carcinoma of the lung occurs in approximately one quarter of all patients with lung cancer and is often near the main Bronk is located, which is the largest airways in the lungs that leads to. Fortunately, these cancers are slow growing and less aggressive.

Adenocarcinoma occurs in approximately 40% of patients, and begins in the outer lung tissue and is most closely associated with smoking, although many non-smokers, although this form of the disease so far. If the patient is male or female and whether they smoked or not, the different treatments for them in this category.

Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is much less common and usually occurs in the larger airways (bronchi), but, unfortunately, but less often they are much more aggressive. Although this form of giving chemotherapy or radiation, but many patients are diagnosed in time, where cancer has often spread (or metastasis) to other parts of the body. The prognosis for SCLC is quite weak in general, and is the type of lung cancer, the most commonly associated with smoking.

Whatever type of representing cancer patients, it is important that it is as soon as possible to maximize the chances of a positive diagnosis. Diagnosis and classification of diagnosed type of cancer is the first step in the process of implementing an effective treatment for patients, and as quickly as was lung cancer, then the "stage". The set is the process by which the degree of distribution and size of the cancers studied, there are four stages I to IV, with the best evaluation of stage I and IV the worst. Staging is important because it directly affects the treatment regime, to be delivered and classification of cancer.
